A friend (Mercedes tech) and I diagnosed coils as the issue, no voltage at plug wires. I let it sit over the winter as Chicago winters can get darn cold.Checked battery first, fine. Checked fuse second, IG 10a fuse fine. Checked ignition third, no power to it. Pulled speedo housing off to look at wiring under tank, and power cam back on???? Tried starting bike and starter solenoid clicked for 1 second and again all power was lost. Couldn't get power back on after this.No Spark/No Pump. I am having some major troubles. Just picked up a 2000 Vulcan 1500 (Carb Model) not too long ago but it had major electrical issues - that being only a head light, tail light, and ignition. If the FI light is staying on after starting, that signals a fault in the FI system which usually triggers a stored fault code. Sometimes a backfire can be as simple as one of your exhaust pipe flanges being loose or having a bad gasket. When the bike is running put your hand down where they bolt up to the heads and if you feel any air, you have found your problem. Get a multimeter and check voltage before starting. Then if it starts check again. Get both readings and compare them to the battery voltage and the manual for recharge voltage. I unplugged the cobra, checked to make sure there was no dirt or grime on or in the plug. I then plugged it back up. The plugs were clean, no cracks or breaks.
